SA solar geyser installation costs

Calculating the cost for installation on a SA solar geyser system will depend on the size, model, and other accessories that may be required. However, we at Solar Geysers SA is a leading SA solar geyser installer, and we provide very affordable solar geyser installation prices, which is hard to beat by other competitors.

Maintenance cost for solar geysers

SA solar geysers are very resilient due to the fact that they have no moving parts which can wear and tear easily. The SA solar geysers we install can last for 25 years without ever needing any form of maintenance. A best practice is to, from time-to-time, clean the solar geyser system from debris or leaves if necessary.

SA solar geyser information

How do solar geysers work?

Heating of cold water occurs when a SA solar geyser’s solar collector traps thermal energy from the sun inside the system. Our SA solar geysers are used for both residential and commercial applications. A solar heating controller measures the temperature of the solar collector in comparison to the water at the bottom of the solar water cylinder. Therefore, when the solar collector’s temperature is hotter in comparison to the temperature at the bottom cylinder, the solar controller will turn on the solar geyser system’s circulating pump. A heat transfer fluid is then circulated through the solar collector, transferring heat to the heat exchanger, resulting in, water is heated inside the solar storage tank.

Solar geyser systems work by harnessing the energy from sunlight to heat water for household use. There are two main components to a solar geyser system: solar collectors and a storage tank.

  1. Solar Collectors: These are typically mounted on the roof or other sunny areas of the property. Solar collectors are made up of solar panels or tubes containing a heat-absorbing material. When sunlight strikes the collectors, the heat is transferred to the fluid (usually water or a heat transfer fluid) circulating within them.

  2. Storage Tank: The heated fluid from the solar collectors is pumped or transferred into a storage tank, where it is stored until needed. The storage tank is well insulated to minimize heat loss, ensuring that the water remains hot even when not in use.

The operation of a solar geyser system can be either direct or indirect:

  • Direct System: In a direct system, water from the storage tank is circulated directly through the solar collectors, where it is heated by the sun. Once heated, the water is returned to the storage tank for later use. Direct systems are typically used in areas where freezing temperatures are not a concern.

  • Indirect System: In an indirect system, a heat transfer fluid (such as glycol) is circulated through the solar collectors to absorb heat from the sun. This heated fluid is then pumped through a heat exchanger in the storage tank, where it transfers its heat to the water stored in the tank. Indirect systems are more commonly used in areas where freezing temperatures are a possibility, as the use of a heat transfer fluid prevents the water in the collectors from freezing.

Overall, solar geyser systems work by utilizing the free and abundant energy from the sun to heat water, providing a renewable and sustainable alternative to traditional water heating methods.

Thermosiphon SA solar geysers

SA solar geysers can also work without the need for a pump to circulate water by the means of natural convection. We know these SA solar geysers as “Thermosiphon solar geyser systems”. As we know, heat rises up and cold will move down and this is how a SA thermosiphon solar geyser system works. In a thermosiphon SA solar geyser, the water storage tank should at least be 300mm higher than the top part of the solar collector for the thermosiphon effect to work. The water inside the solar collector gets heated by the trapped thermal energy from the sun and will rise to the top side of the solar collector. Therefore, the hot water rises to the water storage tank, and cold water coming into the solar geyser will flow to the bottom of the solar collector. This is a method of Siphoning or water circulation inside the SA solar geyser system. This circulation takes place inside of the SA solar collector and the water storage tank while the sun is providing thermal energy to the system. a SA thermosiphon solar geyser is very simplistic but also, very reliable as there are no moving parts.

More information regarding SA solar geysers

Does a solar geyser work in the winter?

a SA solar geyser will provide your home with a sufficient amount of hot water even on the coldest days during the winter season. The solar collector will trap thermal energy from the sun but may lose some percentage of heat during very cold days. However, our SA solar geysers work great with a backup element only when really necessary.

What is a solar water heating system?

It is the same as a solar geyser. In South Africa, we talk about geysers as where other countries such as Europe, talk about heaters.

Where are SA solar geysers manufactured?

All the SA solar geysers are locally manufactured and distributed for South Africans. Solar Geysers SA doesn’t believe in supplying Chinese imported solar geysers, but rather, high-quality SA solar geysers which are well tested and proven.
